A member of the Russell Group of leading UK research universities, The University of Leeds is one of the top 100 universities in the world (The Times, The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2018, Guardian University Guide 2019), and ranked in the top 10 universities in the UK (QS World University Rankings 2019). Leeds University Union was one of the first Students' Unions to be awarded excellent status by the National Union of Students.
Leeds for students
Leeds is home to five unique universities: The University of Leeds, Leeds Beckett University, Leeds Trinity, Leeds Arts University and Leeds Conservatoire. This is a total of over 60,000 students, meaning you will never be alone. Although the universities are separate, integration opportunities are never rare, with shared student housing opportunities, sports events and socials. Members from all institutions are welcome to join UOLBC.
Leeds as a city
The University of Leeds is situated a 10 minute stroll away from the city centre. Full of bars, clubs, and shopping facilities, the city of Leeds is all a student needs. As well as this, the campus is located on the edge of Woodhouse Moor, a hotspot in summer for drinks, picnics and maybe even a game of rounders. The campus is only a short walk from Hyde Park and Headingley, both popular student areas in Leeds.
Leeds for sports
The University of Leeds is home to the Gryphons, the university's performance sports teams. Each year, Varsity takes place between the University of Leeds and Leeds Beckett University across all sports, concluding with a widely-enjoyed rugby match between the universities at Headingley Stadium. As well as University sports, Leeds is a centre for sport, including the Leeds Rhinos, Leeds United and Yorkshire Country Cricket Club.
